She walked in with a vase of flowers and a small bag containing bread. But she carried more than just that. She came bearing something greater than the items in her hands. And she explained how there were others she had already seen and more she intended to see on that day. She wasn’t looking for anything in return. Her mission was to provide a simple touch of compassion. She came to see what else may be needful in a difficult moment. Maybe we were able to give back by being attentive to her presence.
Another one walked in with a huge smile. She walked in carrying her heart. Her presence was at that place for two reasons. One she came to check on a friend. She recognized another’s need in the midst of her own. And she stole away from her’s for a moment to minister to another’s. She came in gracious recognition that she had something she could share as she found a little consolation in the visit.
And then there is that one that was sitting beside me. For three months she has been caring for someone. She has opened her home and welcomed a sister in Christ. Because this burden of cancer shouldn’t have to be carried alone. She is present in these moments of uncertainty. Giving selflessly.
When the news came back with even more uncertainty, this one held it together. She was standing on a Rock that won’t fail her. She didn’t crumble and fall because she has more to give.
The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one John 17:22 (NASB)
A new view for me. Without great material possessions, sharing what was needful in the moment. Equality lived out loud because we are all needy.
